Apu Ausangate Ayllu Journey After landing in Cusco, Peru early Saturday morning we will have a small reception at our hotel then enjoy a short rest. Later in the afternoon our journey will begin by exploring the ancient Inca city of Cusco which has been built in the shape of a jaguar. Early Sunday morning we will depart for the Inca site of Sacsayhuaman, considered to be the head of the Monday will bring us to the Vanishing Cultures Foundation village of Pacca. After a welcoming celebration and ceremony, we will have free time for shopping in the village for sweaters, hats, scarves, rugs, jewelry and pottery, all made from our VCF programs. Then we will be treated to a traditional village lunch prepared by the girls and mothers of the VCF Girls’ School. To begin our endurance of altitude, we will hike to the Temple of the Falcon at Pisac participating in a ceremony of gifts to the Pachamama for a successful and exciting journey to Apu Ausangate. Thursday we will return to Cusco to begin preparing for the next days of hiking and camping on Apu Ausangate. Through Ocongate Tinki from Cusco, we drive toward Puno, past the Wari site of Pikillacta and the colonial towns of Andahualillas and Huaro. From here, we wind up a steep, dusty road until we reach small villages of shepherds and weavers in the highland savannah. In the afternoon, the Vilcanota Range finally looms in the distance with Ausangate and Colqe Cruz mountains dominating the landscape. We will arrive at Azul Cocha (Blue Lagoon) by early afternoon. This will be our first campsite, a breath taking spot surrounded by the majestic Apu Ausangate. We will be camping along the shores of the Blue Lagoon. The next six days we will explore many sites not visited by the average traveler. The trail crosses the puno or highland meadows, approaching the base of Apu Ausangate and provides amazing views of the rolling landscape. We set up camp at Upis where we will have a chance to enjoy the thermal baths. Then ascending the slopes, we cross over a 4500 m/14760 ft pass and make our way to Lake Pucacocha where we set up camp with a view of the western icefall of Apu Ausangate. Crossing the highest pass on this journey at Palomani (4800 m/15744 ft), it offers a spectacular view of the southeastern ridge of Apu Ausangate and the peaks of Mariposa and Caracol. We camp overnight at Chillca and then circle northwest around the Ticllacocha Lagoon and conquer the last pass (4650 m/12250 ft) before reaching the small meadow of Pacchaspata. We set up our camp on the shores of Lake Q'omercocha. The trail then descends toward the village of Pajchanta where we set up our last night’s camp. Pajchanta hosts thermal baths for a wonderful, relaxing finale to this great adventure. Friday we will return to Cusco for a free afternoon and last minute shopping. Then for our last night in Peru we will share a farewell dinner! Saturday we will catch a late morning flight to Lima and an overnight flight home. Pre-trip Machu Picchu option: Landing Wednesday morning in Cusco, we will have a small reception and a short morning rest. After a walking tour of the city, we will depart for Machu Picchu on Thursday morning. With an afternoon tour of Machu Picchu we will participate in ceremonies at Machu Picchu to help bring us into ayni for our journey to Apu Ausangate. In the evening we will soak and have ceremony in the hot springs of Aquas Calientes. Returning the next morning to Machu Picchu for a sunrise ceremony, we will freely explore the city in the clouds with an option of either hiking to the Temple of the Moon or climbing Apu Machu Picchu which looks over the Main Temple. We will then return back to Cusco to meet the rest of the group Saturday morning. Price:
